In comparing Emmetts' second two weeks of life to his first, the following observations have been made:
1) The cloth diapers fit.
2) It's a good thing because he knows how to use them.
3) That wasn't a growth spurt. Emmet just has a day here and there during which he doesn't eat every hour.
4) Having a newborn is like being scheduled for sixty consecutive call nights. Of note: the parent gig pays better.
5) It's easy to keep laughing, as long as you like bathroom humor.
6) An infant who may cry at any time can make a nervous dog neurotic.
7) It's pretty cool to watch someone find his own hand.
8) A standard cardboard box of infant hand-me-downs may contain up to 6,314 items of clothing (which somehow composes less than one full load of laundry).
9) A sponge bath can be a traumatic experience.
10) Emmett isn't in love with the driving experience but will take a good walk any day. Guess he really is ours (although verdict's still out on bike travel since he has the head control of soggy old broccoli).
I know there is grave concern regarding Emmett's ability to glean all the love that's due him. Friends, worry not. Between Brooke's parents, Jen and Zac from Californ-I-A, and terrific friends here, Emmett has continued his strict regimen of affection-reception. We've really enjoyed catching up with so many of you and appreciate your thoughtfulness in calling, writing and coming by. Luckily, Andy's aunt Margi and Brooke's college roommates Mary and Jeannie are due in the next couple of weeks to keep it going.
We continue to be amazed that the Divine deemed us worthy/took pity on us/wanted a good laugh and let us be parents. What a fine, fine ride. Check out some highlights...
Brooke's parents at the SLC airport meeting the little fella. Adoration ensues.

Emmett and his newfound "keepin' it real" hand motion.
Brooke's mom in a ray of sunshine (likely eminating from the Emmett)
Brooke's Dad changing the diaper. It must've been a bad one because that's typically a team sport.
Another team sport-the sponge bath. (Please note we have since progressed to the full immersion bath and all was well)

All hands on deck.

Brooke's dad reading to Emmett. The story, while it seemed innocent enough, is basically about why Emmett should like his grandad better than anyone else in the whole world. It also includes something about the two of them making pizza and I'm working out how that fits into the rest of the right-wing propaganda.
Maximum cuteness and a moment of quiet in the car seat (somewhat rare). Sweet hat courtesy of Aunt Margi. It has cows all over it, which I find ironic during breastfeeding...
We introduce Emmett to the dog park and Georgia starts to forgive him a little bit (he's been requiring more of our attention than she typically permits). Note gorgeous SLC weather (it awaits visitors!)
Brooke's parents, Brooke and a bundle of baby.
Jen, Zac and Katie joining Brooke on the Couch of Goodness (place of sacred naps, decadent snacks, lazy reading sessions and, most recently, Emmett's prolonged mealtimes)
Rookie burping...this resulted in approximately 1/2 gallon of baby puke on the shoulder. Luckily, I didn't learn a thing from it. Emmett still "keeping it real."
Andy and Emmett hard-core napping. Good view of Emmett's big old cloth diaper booty.
Cake saying "Welcome to the World, Emmett" at party given by folks from Peace Community Mennonite Church. That's Emmett slouching into the icing (he does, in fact, have legs. Kind of like Yoda, but with the broccoli head control, eh?)
Shameless promotion of a certain educational institution by our buddy Glen.
No place like a station wagon for a little urgent post-hike breastfeeding. Wiley, aformentioned neurotic dog, looks on. He is greatly concerned about the ever-increasing intensity of Emmett's wailing.

Andy's view of Emmett in the carrier. It was still triple-hood weather.
My view of Emmett and Andy. It looked a bit like Andy accidently ran into Emmett and ended up with him plastered to his chest. In Mill Creek Canyon, still gorgeous and snowy.
Emmett's first friend, Julia Murphy. We think it's great that Emmett can drool on people his own age. Shannon, on the left, is a fellow Pediatrics resident. Brett is holding Emmett and wondering how long until Julia can drive an ATV.
Emmett in his first pair of jeans. Don't worry! Emmett can't be offended by our lack of fashion sense because he can't see very well yet (trust me, I'm a doctor). Georgia continues to look longingly waiting for someone, anyone, to give her the attention she deserves.

Awesome, Brooke! Love all the pictures! Make 'em bigger next time. I must have the eyesight of a newborn. Love love!!
If a remember correctly, Georgia had almost as many picture taken of her when she first arrived. How quickly they forget!
Great to see some fun photos of you all! I loved the head-on collision with Andy especially :) Glad to hear all is well and pretty much par for the course. Your jokes make me remember that I will most likely live through yet another one of these in a couple of months and be able to laugh eventually too! Thanks guys!!
I love your observations! I'm glad you are having a smooth transition to parenthood. What a ride it is! Thinking of you all lots!
